HOW TO ROCK A RED LIP ANY DAY OF THE WEEK

red lips 3

Okay, friends. I don’t know about you, but I love red lipsticks. Absolutely adore them. I think they’re dramatic, romantic, and can transform any makeup look or outfit. They’re a bold showstopper that looks good on everyone.

But that doesn’t mean everyone is comfortable enough to wear it.

So today I’m going to show you some tips and tricks that I love to do when I’m wearing a cherry red lipstick!

01. PLAY THE PART.

When I’m wearing red, it’s because I’m confident, I’m comfortable, and I want to look as fierce as possible. A fire engine red lip says, “I got my life together.”. And that’s exactly how I like to look. They always say dress like whom you want to be, right? Well, I want to be someone who knows what they’re doing. Because in all actuality, I’m lost ya’ll. And I’m not talking, “Let me make a U-Turn, I got this.” kind of lost. I mean: “I missed four exits, am currently in the far left lane and need to be in the right at this very moment, I don’t even know how I got here” lost.

But that’s besides the point.

Slap on that pretty shade, walk tall, and keep your head up. Remain confident, because you look great. Rock that lip with pride.

02. GET THERE GRADUALLY.

If you haven’t worn a red at all and don’t feel comfortable, I’d suggest getting there gradually. Maybe choose red tinted balms, or light lipsticks that are more sheer and moisturizing, and then work your way up to more pigmented shades. Or you could always wear a bright red around the house for a while, then perhaps try to do something quick in public (coffee run, grocery shop, simple errands) and then finally: to work or school. Or you could completely dive into the realm of red lips without even a transition like I did. Either way, do whatever makes you comfortable!

03. KEEP THE OUTFIT SIMPLE, BUT FAR FROM BASIC.

When I wear a red lip, I like to keep my outfit a bit more simple. Neutrals are always a safe bet if you don’t know where to start. I especially like the way the colors white and black look. And black & white stripes are also a great pattern that works with red shades. I don’t know what it is, but I’m a sucker for a good stripey shirt and bold lip pair.

04. IF YOU WANT IT BOLD, KEEP THE EYE LIGHT.

Personally, I love both a “natural” and a bold eye with red lips. I think they’re both equally fierce, flattering, and spectacular. But overall, it’s way less difficult to add a nice soft crease definition to your lid, make your eyeliner so sharp you could cut an ex, add a soft blush and then wam-bam-thankyou-ma’am you’re set and ready to take on the world. But if you’re all about that statement, honey, make your eye look just as stunning as your lips and you already won the game.

  1. Great advice for those who are lipstick shy! When I first started wearing makeup I thought red lips made me look like a clown. Eventually I worked my way up to feeling confident in red. I agree that it makes me feel like I have my life together

    1. Thank you! 🙂 And me too! I was always worried that it wouldn’t look write with my red hair and my fair skin and such so I was always super afraid to wear any red, let alone a red lipstick. But I’m so happy I got over that! Haha
